The leading indicator of retail sales

Published since 1995, two weeks before the official UK monthly retail sales, the BRC - KPMG Retail Sales Monitor (RSM monthly report) is a key indicator of consumer demand and the health of the wider economy. Collated from a cross-section of high street brands and pure online retailers, it is also the authoritative source of Online versus In-Store growth and channel split by product.

See how you perform against the market

In partnership with KPMG, the BRC operates a weekly retail sales benchmark for participating retailers. Any BRC member can have an account set up in a matter of days, and will receive aggregated benchmarks by Tuesday lunch time every week, representing over half of all UK sales. The benchmarks track 20 exhaustive product categories, Total and Like-for-like sales, channels and much more.

    Exhaustive summaries of key indicators

The BRC publishes a monthly Economics Briefing Report and Quarterly Trends Analysis to supplement your own reporting. These publications pull out the key messages from all our own monitors, in addition to numerous other metrics relevant to the retail industry and UK economy.

In depth analysis of shop prices

Our Shop Price Index measures changes in the price of 500 of the most commonly bought items, demonstrating the extent to which retailers contribute to inflation through the pricing of commonly bought goods. The SPI is administered by Nielsen, who collate the data on behalf of the BRC. The BRC provide analysis and wider commentary on retail-specific and economy-wide inflation.

    Benchmark online visitor traffic

We partner with Hitwise to deliver our Digital Retail Insight Monitor, a monthly measure of traffic to UK online retail websites. This in-depth report provides invaluable insight into digital retail trends, including breakdowns for visits and views, device usage, and more.

The latest movements in retail employment
