The Head of Marketing & Events will work with the Membership team to develop integrated marketing campaigns to recruit and engage members, generate sponsorship and new business opportunities and to achieve/increase delegates numbers for a range of corporate and policy events. This is a permanent, full time role based at the BRC’s head office in London Bridge and the position reports to the Membership Director.

This role is part of the Membership department. The team is responsible for BRC’s three membership schemes.
Retail membership is open to all UK retailers and trade associations, this is underlined by three principles: safeguarding the bottom line, providing operational support and offering brand protection. We currently have over 100 retail members.
We have an associate membership scheme for companies providing services to retailers and we currently have around 90 associate members.
For companies interested in receiving rapid and accurate retail intelligence, we offer a retail insights subscription, providing unlimited access to over 90 reports per year, from retail sales and shop prices delivering insight into retail pricing strategy and trends over the last decade.
Finally, the events team currently organise a range of corporate and policy events throughout the year. These events range from our showcase event the Annual Retail Industry Dinner, which attracts over several hundred guests, to business conferences for 300 and working dinners for 20.
The Head of Marketing & Events will work with the Membership team to develop integrated marketing campaigns to recruit and engage members, generate sponsorship and new business opportunities and to achieve/increase delegates numbers for a range of corporate and policy events.
This is a permanent, full time role based at the BRC’s head office in London Bridge and the position reports to the Membership Director.
The key accountabilities of this role are as follows:
Strategy – develop an overarching marketing strategy for all aspects of BRC, including membership acquisition and growth and event marketing, sales and promotion. They will work closely with the Director of Corporate Affairs to drive BRC’s corporate and marketing communications, branding and digital and social media presence
External partnerships - Develop relationships with, and gain maximum value from, partners (media, sponsors, other event providers, other trade bodies) to gain maximum exposure of the marketing activities from the relevant audiences
Content marketing – develop and implement and content marketing strategy to raise awareness of BRC and its work, capture data on key contacts and create a pipeline for new members, delegates etc
Social media – develop and implement a social media strategy, working with colleagues in corporate affairs, to raise awareness of BRC’s key influencing campaigns reaching markets through the creative use of social media channels
Events strategy – work with the Membership Director to research, develop and grow BRC’s events programme so that we constantly evolve our events programme to both support our policy work, but also grow revenue through delegate income, sponsorship etc
Events delivery – oversee the delivery of all events in terms of operations and content development
Satisfaction measurement – develop a process to engage with key decision makers in our membership and develop mechanisms to regularly assess member satisfaction throughout the year
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- The role holder will have a commercial outlook and proven strategic marketing experience - strong analytical skills are essential
- Experience in a proactive B2B marketing environment with a proven track record of planning and implementing successful campaigns
- Superb copywriter
- Experienced line manager
- Relevant degree or CIM / post graduate qualification or equivalent
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously, whilst still contributing to a strong team environment.
- Experience of social media marketing is essential
- Campaign planning experience is essential
- Content-led marketing experience essential
- Highly numerate with strong analytical skills
- Experience of working with CRM systems preferably Microsoft Dynamics, web based email (HTML) software such as Click Dimensions and website CMS.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
- Meet and exceed agreed marketing targets – delegates and sponsorship, revenue, member growth
- Meet agreed deadlines for the development of marketing campaigns to support the events and new member acquisition activities
- Meet or exceed delegate numbers for events
- Maintain and develop strong, professional relationships with our internal customers and external partners
