The Role

We are looking for a talented economist to join our team, to shape and lead analysis underlying our policy work, to add to the depth and insight of our commentary and to help drive forward the development of our high-profile data monitors, which are regularly covered in national media.  You will be responsible for coaching team members and colleagues on economic theory, activity and policy as well as proposing and executing thought leadership pieces.

About You

To be successful in this role you will be able to articulate clear, compelling, and original analysis to a non-technical audience and have a proven ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.  You will have a strong understanding of the UK economic and commercial context, be familiar with publicly available socio-economic and retail industry specific datasets.  Ideally, with a degree in Economics or a related subject you will have 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is the trade body for the retail sector, working with some of the UK’s most exciting companies. Our mission is simple - to make a positive difference to the industry and the customers it serves.

The BRC represent over 70% of the sector by turnover, everyone from Amazon to Aldi, Burberry to B&Q. We also work with hundreds of supporting businesses who share our mission from large tech platforms like Google to consultancies like PWC and KPMG.

Through our work, we tell the story of retail - leading the industry and shaping debates on big issues that affect us all, from climate change and modern slavery to nutrition and consumer privacy. The COVID crisis has never seen us busier, from our chief executive flanking Boris Johnson during one of the early crises press conferences, to the daily war rooms our food policy teams facilitated between the supermarkets and Government to help keep the nation fed.

Pay & Benefits

We are offering a competitive salary with an excellent range of employee benefits, including a medical cash plan, private medical insurance, bike scheme & exercise allowance and investment in your professional development as well as a range of health & wellbeing programmes.

Ways of Working

The BRC has a very flexible hybrid working policy based on trust and respecting work life balance that will allow colleagues to shape their work week with blend of remote and office working.  We have a fantastic new office in the Seven Dials area near Covent Garden for when you need it.  We will be happy to discuss your preferences during the recruitment process.
