About Our Graduate Training Programme – September/October 2022 start

This is a unique opportunity to be one of two people on our Graduate Programme, joining our 50 person BRC team that punches way above its weight in terms of industry impact and voice in the media and more widely. From day one, you will become part of the team and see first-hand what it’s like to work for the go-to trade association to the retail industry.

At a glance:

This is a full-time fixed term contract over 2 years and we anticipate that that we will offer you a permanent role at the end of the programme. Over the 2 years we will challenge and support you to grow professionally and personally.  You will receive on the job training through rotations with our Insight, Learning and Membership teams, where you will gain skills and experience in understanding the importance of robust data and the role data plays in understanding the retail market, driving customer engagement and business development.

You will be sponsored by an executive director of the BRC and have a quarterly development review with our HR team, to check in on your learning and receive feedback on your performance.

You will gain experience in:

  • Understanding the retail market and the importance of applying data in decision making for the BRC and its members.
  • Understanding, assessing and documenting processes for market data publications.
  • Researching, understanding and reporting on retailer performance, to influence membership proposals or renewals.
  • Applying your research methods, data management, and data analysis knowledge to rich real-world data, using your analytical skills to find relationships between different types of data to create valuable insight for our teams and members.
  • Working across the business to evaluate alternative templates for reporting member engagement – including interaction with content, events, and email marketing.
  • Conducting data cleansing exercises to identify gaps or errors in data, using third party sources to enrich our data to enable profiling and segmentations of our customers.
  • Creating reports and dashboards for colleagues helping the business to make more effective decisions.
  • Using digital tools to drive member value: Webinars (Livestorm), podcasts (Zoom, Descript and Audioboom), Customer Relationship Management (Microsoft Dynamics), Content Management (Umbraco), Analytics (PowerBI).
  • Supporting the growth the newest part of our business (Learning) by using CRM data and analytics to drive sales and marketing.
  • Increasing customer engagement through social media marketing and on the website through organic SEO.
  • Large scale project management by supporting the organisation and running of the BRC’s flagship leadership development programme.

About you

We’re looking for graduates who are enthusiastic to learn and be a contributing part of a team, acting with curiosity, courage, pride, purpose and ownership. And who have:

  • A 2:1 degree in a STEM subject, Business, Data Science or Analytics – or an equivalent degree with a significant quantitative component.
  • A passion for working with and understanding data and the benefit of its application.
  • An analytical mind and problem-solving skills. 
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Technical skills in MS suite including Excel and PowerPoint. PowerBI, Python and R an advantage but not essential. Skills development is included in the programme.
