The retail industry will take science-based action to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Our “net zero” commitment is to take all economically feasible decarbonisation measures and invest to offset only residual emissions using high quality mechanisms.
The Roadmap also provides clear directions in order to allow retail industry suppliers, business partners and other stakeholders to take action to decarbonise their own activities.
Definitions of scope 1, 2 and 3 follow the Greenhouse Gas Protocol conventions.
Scope 1: Direct emissions from retailers’ owned or controlled sources. Examples include fuels for heating, logistics and refrigeration gases.
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the generation of energy purchased by retail businesses.
Scope 3: Indirect emissions (not included in scope 2) that occur in the value chain of retail businesses, including both upstream and downstream emissions (including supply chain, logistics and customer related emissions).
