By March 2019, the direction by which the UK is exiting the European Union will be made and retailers will need processes in place to handle the movement of goods – regardless of a deal or no deal.

The UK Government has published the delegated legislation on the customs rules which would apply in relation to a No Deal Brexit. If there is an approved deal, the Irish Protocol or any future arrangement to be negotiated to apply after expiry of the transition period may introduce some new requirements into goods movements in any Single Customs Territory. Rules on future supply of haulage services would require to be confirmed in addition.

Having the systems, processes and infrastructure in place is vital to ensure retailers can move cargo from the EU, and more distant places, through the UK to stores or to customers for delivery.

This roundtable, with our partners at DP World London Gateway, will explore what the key areas are that can help retailers get goods to their stores from the rest of Europe if key ports have reduced capacity or flow of goods from next spring.
