Andrew Thurston

Assistant Customs Manager

With over 15 years of International Trade Compliance auditing experience,  I have extensive expertise in interpreting UK and EU legislation.

I have completed audits covering virtually all customs regimes using well-honed analytical skills, interview techniques and technical knowledge.  I am proficient on the following customs regimes:

  • ADD & Countervailing Duty
  • Processing (IPR, OPR, PCC)
  • Customs Warehousing
  • Temporary Admission
  • CFSP
  • End-Use
  • Exports

I have up-to-date AEO experience and completed numerous application and reassessment audits. My role ensures I maintain a very good working knowledge of valuation covering all 6 methods, along with SPV’s and SIV’s.  I have very good understanding of classification and am the local “go-to” person for such queries.

Within HMRC, I was heavily involved in coaching and mentoring new colleagues as part of the EU-Exit preparations.  This included providing group workshops and creating presentations.

I led multiple projects that required me to liaise with stakeholders located nationally to ensure that audits were completed timely and to meet the requirements of the project.  This involved regular conversations with colleagues to ensure consistency of approach and producing reports of findings to project sponsors.

As part of MHA’s Customs Team I liaise with clients to ensure that their business is fully prepared for EU-Exit by review of their supply chain and customs processes.
