Joining forces with WorldSkills UK, Rethink Retail, powered by the BRC, will take part in LIVE, the UK’s largest experiential skills, apprenticeships and careers event to showcase the different career opportunities available to young people within retail.
We’re delighted to be joined by four of our members: Sainsbury’s, Boots, Amazon and Pret. Each retailer will run activities and demonstrate different career roles within their organisations. We will also host a Career Hub where visitors can meet our retailers and ask about the different routes into retail. Visitors can meet with the clothes team at Sainsbury’s and try their hand at working as a Visual Merchandiser or receive expert advice from Boots’ Beauty Advisors to help to create a festive make-up look. Visitors can even learn how to code with Amazon’s Ozobot and programme robots!
Rethink Retail is an online platform helping to build Retail as a career of choice. It provides impartial insights and advice for individuals looking to enter or build their career in the retail industry and showcases the diverse range of opportunities available, in order to help retailers attract and retain the talent they need for the future.
LIVE will take place from 21st – 23rd November at the NEC Birmingham and will attract over 70,000 visitors. The event is free to attend. Rethink Retail will join hundreds of other exhibitors including employers, colleges and training providers and visitors will have the chance to discuss employment opportunities, have a go at different skills and get practical tips from careers advisers on how best to complete job applications and prepare for interviews.
Helen Dickinson, CEO of the British Retail Consortium, said: “Meeting with young people from all over the UK enables us to demonstrate the wealth of career opportunity that exist within retail as well as illustrate just how exciting the industry is. It is always extremely rewarding to encourage and convince young people who may not have ever considered a career in retail before. That is why we launched our Rethink Retail portal as we want to see retail much higher up the list of career choices for people of all talents and abilities.”
Dr Neil Bentley-Gockmann OBE, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said: “LIVE has an enormous impact on the lives of young people as they embark on identifying their career opportunities. It is great to be working with Rethink Retail to get our visitors excited about a career in the retail industry.”
