The science and art of retail transformation: Enabling agility

On Wednesday 9th of June, the BRC and Newton co-hosted a roundtable looking at the ways in which CEO’s can engage their workforces to harness some of the positive changes we have seen in retail since the beginning of the pandemic.

Agility was at the top of the agenda, with discussions focussing on the ways in which leadership teams can inspire their teams to become more responsive, while also managing the kind of long-term transformation that can be difficult in the fast-paced world of retail.

There were three main topics of discussion:

  • The importance of an agile front line: the ability to empower colleagues to make decisions on the front line, instead of a purely top-down approach.
  • Making change in an agile way: the clash between data science functions and traditional project management.
  • The importance of agile leadership: how to improve the link between leadership teams down to the stores.
