Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations retailers must provide a way for customers to dispose of their old household electrical and electronic equipment when selling them a new version of the same item. Many retailers have been using the Distributor Takeback Scheme (DTS) instead of providing a takeback service, however those who sell £100,000 or more of EEE per year and have physical stores, cannot use the DTS after 31 December 2020.

They will need to take back waste in store or set up an alternative collection point instead.

A toolkit of communications to help ensure consistency across all consumer communications relating to retailer take-back has been developed.
