The Distributor Take-Back Scheme (DTS) provides distributors of household EEE (i.e. retailers and internet sellers) with an alternative to offer like-for-like, one-for-one takeback arrangement as set out in Regulation 42 of the UK WEEE Regulations.
The existing DTS provides a mechanism by which retailers can choose to avoid a take-back arrangement through payment of a DTS membership fee. Monies raised from this fee are then made available to local authorities to support increased levels of WEEE collection for recycling and re-use. The existing DTS expires on 31 December 2021.
Defra is seeking views on a proposal for a replacement DTS that would be effective from 1 January 2022. Such approval is at the discretion of the Secretary of State.
BRC members can provide any comments on the proposal to weee@defra.gov.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 2nd November.
