The letter to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government calls for the current relaxation of enforcement to be extended beyond 31 March, when it is due to expire.

The relaxation consists of Ministerial guidance to councils suggesting that they do not enforce delivery time restrictions on retailers. The retailers currently open are essential ones, primarily supplying food for supermarkets.

Given the need to maintain social distancing while still meeting customers' needs in online deliveries, and the ongoing disruption to supply chains brought about by Brexit, the BRC has called for new guidance to extend the relaxation to 30 June.
