Retail is hugely important to the UK economy. It is the biggest private sector employer in the UK. The picture is no different in the world of property.

Research published in the years after the last recession showed that retail property (in value terms) accounted for a larger slice of the market than any other type of property.

Given the value and significance of retail property permanent change in this sector cannot fail to be of interest. But, what are the changes we are seeing now that will outlast the current crisis?

There may be many changes for retail property in the coming months and years, here I consider just one – rent.
