The UK Government has announced its applied UK Global Tariffs (UKGT) to cover non-preferential trade at the expiry of the transition period, currently set to be 1 January.

These applied tariffs are in relation to imports where there is no preferential trade agreement in place between the UK and the country concerned (eg. with Norway, South Africa, South Korea) or the unilateral trade preferences (such as in the UK's successor schemes to the EU's GSP, GSP+ and EBA schemes). By the end of this Parliament, the UK Government intends that should only be 20% of UK trade.

You can study the impact upon your company of these new applied tariffs from 1 January in our briefing on the UKGT and this searchable spreadsheet. They are expected to become law in September this year through delegated legislation under the Taxation (Cross-Border Trade) Act 2018.
