August 2020 ONS Retail Sales analysis
The ONS Retail Sales Index (RSI) for August 2020 released today were broadly in line with economist' consensus forecast, with a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month increase of 0.6% excluding fuel, against consensus forecast of 0.4%.
The headline comparable to the BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor (RSM) was a non-seasonally adjusted year-on-year value growth of 4.1% in August for all businesses (excluding fuel), similar to the RSM 3.9% increase published on 8 September.
