July 2020 ONS Retail Sales analysis

The ONS Retail Sales Index (RSI) for July 2020 released today were better than economist's expectations, with a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month increase of 2.0% excluding fuel, against consensus forecast of 0.2%.

The headline comparable to the BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor (RSM) was a non-seasonally adjusted year-on-year value decline of 0.4% in July for large businesses, below the RSM 3.2% increase published on 11 August.
