Retail Employment Remains Below Pre-Pandemic Levels

- There were 3.04 million jobs in retail in Q4 2021, a loss of 68,000 jobs (-2.2%) compared to the same point in 2020.
- When compared to its pre-pandemic level, this was a loss of 108,000 jobs
(-3.4%). - In the three months to February 2022, there were 105,000 job vacancies in retail, which was an increase of 60,000 from the same point a year earlier (+131%).
- UK wages increased by 3.8% in the three months to December 2021.
- Real wages, however, decreased by 1.0% over the same period, due to the sharp increase in inflation. This was the steepest decline since July 2014.
