September 2020 ONS Retail Sales analysis
The ONS Retail Sales Index (RSI) for September 2020 released today were higher than economist' consensus forecast, with a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month increase of 1.6% excluding fuel, against consensus forecast of 0.5%.
The headline comparable to the BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor (RSM) was a non-seasonally adjusted year-on-year value growth of 5.8% in September for all businesses (excluding fuel), an acceleration of growth compared to August, as shown in the RSM published on 13 October.
