Helen Dickinson OBE

Helen leads the team and sets the strategic direction of the BRC. She joined in January 2013 and has been working with retailers for over 25 years. In 2016 she was awarded an OBE for Services to Retail.
Helen is passionate about diversity and inclusion in retail, acting as the BRC’s Social Mobility Commission ambassador; participating in the Timewise Innovation Unit, looking to support more flexibility in jobs, particularly at senior levels; supporting the Everywoman Retail Ambassadors Programme; and having previously been the Chair of Working Chance, a charity helping women offenders find employment.
Helen believes retail can make a strong contribution to communities, and is also on the advisory board for Pennies, a charity which offers digital charity boxes to businesses. Helen was previously UK Head of Retail at KPMG, driving and developing the retail practice and leading relationships and audits for many clients.
Kit Malthouse
Minister for Crime and Policing
Kit Malthouse was appointed Minister of State in the Home Office and Ministry of Justice on 14 February 2020. He was previously Minister of State (Minister of State for Crime, Policing and the Fire Service) for the Home Office from 25 July 2019 to 14 February 2020 and Minister of State in the Ministry of Justice on 14 February 2020. He was previously Minister of State for Housing from 9 July 2018 to 25 July 2019. He was previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Family Support, Housing and Child Maintenance at the Department of Work and Pensions from 9 January 2018 to 9 July 2018. He was elected as Conservative MP for North West Hampshire in May 2015.

After twenty years in the UK Civil Service, Paul joined the Co-op, the world’s oldest co-operative business, in 2016. As Campaigns and Public Affairs Director, he leads the Co-op’s engagement with government across all their interests on a range of public policy issues. He also leads the Co-op’s campaigning activity through their multi-award winning campaigns on modern slavery, loneliness and their current campaign on shopworker violence and crime in community. He is a trustee of the Cooperative Heritage Trust.

Helen has worked in retail for 29 years and has been a security professional within this industry for 19 of them. Helen’s role at Sainsburys has the primary focus of making a safer environment for colleagues and customers to work and shop, whilst monitoring and responding to security risk that may impact our business and communities now or in the future.
Patrick Holdaway
Chief Inspector – Business Crime Lead - Hampshire Constabulary
Patrick Holdaway is a Chief Inspector from Hampshire Constabulary and has recently returned from a 2-year secondment at the National Business Crime Centre (NBCC). During his time at the NBCC Patrick worked across policing and government to raise the issues that affect business, in particular working to prevent violence, tackle organised crime whilst developing and sharing best practice between forces and the business community. Patrick was also the business engagement lead supporting OP Talla, the national policing response to Covid-19, during which he supported a wide range of business sectors and influenced national policy to support businesses in preventing crime.
James Lowman
Chief Executive - ACS
James was appointed ACS Chief Executive in November 2006. He has led ACS on political and policy representation, driven a unique research programme that informs ACS’ policy work, launched an industry-leading assured advice scheme in partnership with Surrey County Council, created a new and unique events programme, and increased membership and engagement from all parts of the industry. James is a member of ministerial advisory groups including the National Retail Crime Steering Group and the Retail Sector Council. He also sits on the boards of Community Alcohol Partnerships, the London Food Board and the High Streets Task Force. He has a degree in Politics from the University of Essex, and an MBA from Kingston Business School.
