The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is the trade association for UK retail. The industry is diverse, dynamic and includes retail brands, brand manufacturers who sell direct to consumers, and covers many innovative business models, from in-store and digital to rental, repair and re-use.

THE ROLE

This role leads the BRC’s Market intelligence offering and provides line management for the Market Intelligence team of four people. A wide-ranging role beyond core data and economic analysis, the team supports three core customers: Members; Subscribers and Colleagues.

RESPONSABILITIES 

As BRC Director of Market Intelligence, you will be responsible for:

  1. Thought leadership, analysis of data, economics and retail trends; Lead the creation/curation of bespoke and procured content on industry topics to provide original points of view, useful modelling/calculations, and strategic support.
  2. External engagement and communications; Promote and clarify BRC’s storytelling, acting as an opinion former and spokesperson across media channels, working with partners and members, speaking at their events, leading and moderating webinars and roundtables and working with the commercial team to develop commercial relationships with partners on thought leadership and Customer Community content.
  3. Member engagement; Oversee the BRC’s Customer Community and deliver improved member value.
  4. Quality and evolution of core data and analysis; Enhance the value and benefit of BRC insights offering to retail members, associate members and subscribers.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

The ideal role holder will be:

  • Familiar with the UK retail industry, have consulted for or worked within retail or CPG and is able to talk fluently, credibly and passionately about retail
  • Able to put retail statistics into the context of the macro-economic environment
  • A self-motivated and inspirational leader, able to develop and coach the Insight team
  • A trusted/pro-active team player, supporting colleagues in leading constant improvement
  •  An excellent communicator with the confidence to influence and engage at a senior level, able to portray complex ideas simply to both small and large diverse audiences
  • Good knowledge of publicly available datasets (e.g., ONS, Bank of England, Eurostat).

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience, with eligibility for annual bonus.
