Help shape the DBT Retail Smart Data Project
Join us for an exclusive session with DBT to help shape their new Smart Data in retail project.
DBT says:
Smart Data – Overview
Data is reshaping the global economy, and in the Industrial Strategy the government committed to unlock its full potential to benefit the UK. Smart Data enables consumers and businesses to securely share data held by service providers with trusted third parties. This supports new services that drive innovation, competition and growth.
Smart Data Taskforce for Retail
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and No10 are working together to explore how Smart Data could improve the way retail services are planned, delivered, and experienced across the UK. Our areas of interest include:
• where Smart Data could add value for retailers (e.g. in-store operations, supply chains, regulatory reporting);
• current barriers to effective data sharing; and
• which use cases are practical and beneficial for the sector.
To shape this work around real industry needs, we are establishing a Smart Data Taskforce for Retail, led by DBT. It will bring together retailers, trade bodies, innovators and civil society to identify valuable datasets and priority use cases.
The taskforce will begin with targeted workshops for grocery retailers, trade associations, regulators and government departments. These sessions will explore how Smart Data could help address current challenges and will inform well‑defined use cases for consultation later in 2026.
