Background
An update to the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 (FFRs) is expected to be published before the end of 2026 (read a summary of the current regulation here).
There is a push from industry to reduce the use of chemical flame retardants within furniture. It has been noted that one of the risks during fire incidents is not necessarily the fire itself, but rather the inhalation of these chemicals.
