Responding to Bridget Phillipson's announcement on cutting red tape around Apprenticeship requirements, Luiza Paludo Gomes, Employment & Skills Adviser at the BRC, said:
“Apprenticeships are vital for creating opportunity and career progression for those working in retail, as well as upskilling the workforce to meet the industry’s needs. For too long, the inflexibility of the Apprenticeship Levy has deprived tens of thousands of potential apprenticeships and training opportunities. We welcome today’s announcement of the relaxation of functional skills requirements and the reduction of the minimum duration of an apprenticeship from 12 to eight months, which will remove significant barriers to enrolling more apprentices. Government must continue to work with businesses to ensure the new Growth and Skills Levy works optimally."
