The BRC has joined together with BIRA, FSB, Coadec, CRA, and the ACS to put our names to the new 'Axe the Card Tax' campaign. Together we represent around 240,000 firms in the UK. More information can be found on the Axe the Card Tax website.

The campaign puts pressure on decision makers to take meaningful action on rising card fees and encourages them to act at pace against the backdrop of a cost of doing business crisis. Crucially, the coalition represents retailers who are facing rising costs as a result of the actions of the major card schemes, and also innovators ready to offer alternatives once there is a level playing field.

Initial actions include letters to Mel Stride (Chair of the TSC) and Andrew Griffith (City Minister), as well as media and press attention. You can read an article published in The Express here. Over the next few months the Axe the Card Tax Campaign will be outlining a potential ways forward to lower retailer costs and drive innovation in the payments sector.
