Our Submission to the PAC Inquiry on Resilience to Threats from Animal Disease
Our response to the call for evidence from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on resilience to threats from animal disease in England.
We support the need for long-term resilience and proactive strategies to protect England’s farming sector, food security, our economy and trade. We provided comments on recent learnings from the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak, challenges with resourcing that the government faces with vets and local authorities, and the need to consider a proactive and aligned approach to communication for future work on climate change; particularly with the increase in insects and impact on diseases such as Bluetongue and lumpy skin disease.
