ACAS is running a Sickness Absence Campaign and has launched a Toolkit with tips, guidance, assets, and resources for members to use.

According to ACAS, over one-quarter of employers are reporting an increase in staff absences, which makes it crucial for businesses to know how to manage thesen effectively because failure to do so can have a detrimental effect on business.

The toolkit aims to assist employers to handle sickness absence and better support employees during their illness and upon their return to work.

There are additional resources, such as:

  • A podcast with Acas’s Area Director Paul Beard, President of the Society of Occupational Medicine, Shriti Pattani and Managing Director of the Ape Group, Alfie Payne unpack the subject of sickness absence; offering essential advice, firsthand experiences and best practices on how to better manage it.
  • A blog by Dr Kabir Abraham Varghese, Occupational Health Physician from London North West University Healthcare about the misconceptions surrounding occupational health, including informing businesses of when and why to refer to them.
