At the Conservative Party Conference earlier this week, Jeremy Hunt, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, confirmed that the National Living Wage (NLW) will increase to at least £11 per hour – up from £10.42 – reaching two-thirds of median income.

This is ahead of the recommendations from the Low Pay Commission (LPC) and aligned with the Conservative Manifesto. The recommendations are expected later this month and will be followed by formal confirmation from the Government setting the different NLW rates.

The BRC is currently engaging with the LPC to help inform its remit beyond 2024. We are calling for the LPC to consider a wider range of factors such as the cost of employment, productivity, and wider economic indicators when determining the annual uprating for the NLW. We are seeking a member meeting with the LPC to discuss this area in more detail - please contact Luiza at luiza.gomes@brc.org.uk to get involved.
