Following the Home Secretary’s 04 December Immigration announcement, on 21 December, the Home Office published further details of the proposals:

  • Factsheet outlining the immigration changes

Follow this link to read government’s factsheet outlining the changes. Please note that current thresholds and policies remain in place until the Immigration Rules are amended.

  • Changes to student routes

From January 2024, international students starting courses will no longer be able to bring family members. Postgraduate research courses and courses with government-funded scholarships are exempt from these changes and will still be able to bring family members. Click here to find more details.

  • Other immigration routes

Lastly, in early December, the Home Office laid a Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules, including changes to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), Visitor Rules, Youth Mobility Scheme and others.

A detailed explanation of the changes can be found in the Explanatory Memorandum here and the Home Secretary’s Written Statement here.
