B&Q’s Inclusive Language Guide and Colleague Networks
In January 2020, B&Q signed the Armed Forces Covenant as part of their commitment to creating a workplace where everyone can feel they belong. By signing the Covenant, B&Q demonstrates that they are doing all they can to support ex-armed forces veterans, Reservists, Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers (CFAV) and their families to develop their careers and wellbeing in the workplace.
This includes giving an additional 10 days paid leave per annum to Reservist and CFAV colleagues to support their military training and commitments.
Since July 2024, B&Q has held a Gold Award as part of the Ministry of Defence's Employer Recognition Scheme to support colleagues who currently serve or have served our country. B&Q’s Armed Forces Policy was created to reflect this commitment and can be found below:
Alignment with the BRC D&I Charter’s Pledges
The BRC Diversity & Inclusion Charter emphasizes creating inclusive workplaces, supporting underrepresented groups, and fostering a culture of equality. B&Q’s commitment to their Armed Forces colleagues aligns with Pledge 5 of the BRC Diversity and Inclusion Charter, demonstrating the ‘commitment to creating a respectful, inclusive work environment within which every employee has the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the company’s vision and values’.
