Pride @ B&Q
In 2020, B&Q worked with their established National People’s Forum and the Involvement and Participation Association (IPA) to create 5 x colleague networks:
- Armed Forces Community
- Gender Equality
- Pride
- Ability
- Embrace Cultural Diversity
These networks consist of an elected representative from each of B&Q’s 16 regions and 7 head office functions, an elected Chair, a regional/functional lead representative and a leadership sponsor from their director population, per network.
The goal of this network is to ensure LGBTQ+ colleagues understand that they’re supported at B&Q. Collaborating with the Pride Network at Dentsu, one of B&Q’s marketing agencies, the B&Q Pride Network have created an informative and empowering ‘Coming Out Guide’, available for colleagues across B&Q to access.
B&Q have shared their ‘Coming Out Guide’ as a resource for retailers to learn from below:
Alignment with the BRC D&I Charter’s Pledges
The BRC Diversity & Inclusion Charter emphasizes creating inclusive workplaces, supporting underrepresented groups, and fostering a culture of equality. B&Q’s ‘Coming Out Guide’ aligns with Pledge 5 of the BRC Diversity and Inclusion Charter, where businesses are ‘committed to creating a respectful, inclusive work environment within which every employee has the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the company’s vision and values’.
