LPC Consultation

The Low Pay Commission (LPC) published its consultation today (02 May), and the deadline for submissions is 30 June.

The LPC is the independent body that advises Government on the level of the minimum wage and the consultation will inform its recommendations for National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) rates to apply from April 2026. You can find the consultation and full set of questions here.

As usual, the BRC will respond on behalf of retailers by providing written and oral evidence. We are aware that this year has been particularly challenging from a cost point of view, with that in mind, se strongly incentivise members to engage in our response.

Have your say on this

The core of BRC’s submission is data from the HR Benchmark. The HR Benchmark provide us with robust data to inform our response, in a strong way, highlighting the reality of the challenges faced by the industry.

Please ensure that you respond to the HR Benchmark so that your experience is reflected in our response. We have now extended the deadline for submissions until 9 May, and you can find the survey here.

If you have any issues or questions, please contact Harvir at Harvir.Dhillon@brc.org.uk.

LPC remit

Please note that the LPC have not yet received its remit from government, however, in asking about the effects of the most recent upratings, the absence of a future remit should not affect questions or responses. Once the remit is confirmed and published, LPC may publish an updated version of the consultation.
