From DESNEZ:

Lighting accounts for a significant portion of electricity use in buildings in both the non-domestic and domestic sectors. Global innovation in lighting technology in recent years has made it possible to achieve greater energy savings which, in turn, can reduce the overall amount of electricity required for lighting.

In advance of publishing the Government response to the consultation, we would like to inform you that we will not be bringing in the new standards later this year as proposed in the consultation. We will respond to the issues raised by consultees in the Government response. However, we wanted to assure you now that we are aware that industry will need time to develop their products in accordance with new regulations and we will take this into account when we set the revised implementation deadline.

We would also like to take this opportunity to confirm that the Department for Business and Trade’s announcement to indefinitely extend the use of the CE mark is not intended to affect the lighting proposals which we consulted on. As part of the consultation, we set out our intention to mandate UKCA marking for lighting products at the point we bring in the new standards. We will set out our response on this in more detail in the Government response.

Thank you for your continued support and for passing this update on to your members.

Kind regards,
