Fire safety of domestic upholstered furniture - Consultation

Proposed changes:

•Essential safety requirements will replace prescribed testing
•Clarified the scope and removed products that are low risk
•Requirement to label for chemical flame retardants
•Conformity assessment procedure
•Increased window of time to take enforcement action
•Clearer obligations for manufacturers, importers, suppliers, re-upholsterers, second hand sellers, landlords of furnished accommodation
•A number of measures to encourage a reduction in the use of chemical flame retardants
•New British Standards
•Transition period for implementation

The consultation closes on 24th October.
