In this on-demand session, Vicki Young, Head of Learning, and programme designer Sam Redman, walk you through the structure, philosophy, and learning experience behind BRC Leaders' Summer School — one of the UK retail industry's most distinctive leadership development programmes.
You'll hear how the programme is built around four leadership lenses — People, Planet, Purpose, and Profit — and how these help delegates examine themselves, their organisations, and their choices as leaders. Vicki and Sam cover the programme's two pathways (Emerging and Transforming Leaders), the role of group coaching, and the conscious leadership self-assessment tool developed specifically for the school.
Three delegates from the previous cohort also join the session to share what they took back to their organisations — including how the programme shifted their leadership thinking, changed the language they use day-to-day, and helped them connect their personal values to their role in the wider retail ecosystem.
The session also addresses common questions from HR and L&D professionals, including how line managers are involved and supported during the programme, how learning is embedded beyond the classroom, and what access delegates retain after the programme ends.
Note: This recording dates from 2022. BRC Leaders' Summer School now offers both virtual and in-person pathways. Visit [brclearning.co.uk] for current cohort dates and programme details.

Vicki Young
Head of Learning
Vicki is an experienced people professional who brings a rich background in HR leadership to her role as Head of Learning for BRC Learning at the BRC.
Before joining the BRC, Vicki spent nearly a decade at World Duty Free, one of the UK's most prominent travel retailers, where she rose to Regional HR Manager for the South of England. In that role she held responsibility for around 1,000 employees across 14 locations, leading a team of 12 HR professionals and driving the full employee lifecycle. Her work centred on building strong business partnerships, delivering people-focused change, and developing leaders at every level of the organisation — giving her a grounded, commercial perspective on what effective learning really looks like in a retail environment.
She now brings that operational depth to BRC Learning, where since 2021 she has led the learning offer for one of the UK's most influential retail bodies, helping shape the skills and careers of people across the sector.
