Over the past few months, we’ve been speaking with senior leaders across the retail and consumer sector to explore how ESG is being delivered in practice, not just discussed in theory.

The conversations have been clear-sighted and grounded in the realities of implementation in an increasingly disrupted world. ESG is high on the agenda, but delivery looks different across businesses and commercial pressures are a challenge across the board. What’s driving progress in some businesses, and holding others back, often comes down to governance, advocacy, ownership, resourcing and culture.

These conversations have been part of our ongoing ESG research and thought leadership project, ESG Evolve, exploring how retail and consumer businesses are approaching ESG in practice.

As part of the project's next phase, we will be hosting a roundtable on 18 June with GCs and senior business leaders from the retail and consumer sector. The roundtable will reflect on common themes and test and explore our early findings from the interview stage. These insights will feed directly into the final whitepaper and practical toolkit to be published later this year.

The roundtable will explore how organisations are using ESG to unlock commercial value – from embedding sustainability into business strategy, to overcoming internal challenges and staying ahead of regulatory change. It will be a chance to share practical ideas on what is working in practice, and what kind of support in-house teams really need.
