Today the Social Mobility Commission launched its sector-specific retail toolkit.
We’re proud to have worked with the Commission to produce this new ‘Retail Toolkit’. The unique features of the retail industry give it the capacity to be a real engine of social mobility in the UK, but the higher-paid professional and managerial office roles are still dominated by those from high socio-economic backgrounds.
The toolkit complements the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) journey retailers are working on in the BRC D&I Charter and builds on the findings of BRC’s latest Diversity and Inclusion in UK Retail Report, highlighting the increased focus on social mobility.
The Toolkit provides simple guidance to help retailers all over the country access a wealth of untapped talent, and ensure that all staff can progress, regardless of their background.
It offers practical support and advice to retailers on how to identify and remove invisible barriers at every stage of the employee journey and includes case studies from other retailers who have successfully implemented D&I initiatives themselves.
