OPSS guidance on funding for product safety projects
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has released guidance on funding applications for the delivery of community-based, consumer-focused product safety awareness and education projects.
Community Contract funding may be given to projects which:
- Take place in-person at community settings
- Make product safety messaging more accessible
Bid for funding
- Funding is available for projects valued under £10,000 (excluding VAT)
- Applications must be submitted by 1 September 2026
- Successful projects must be delivered by 5 February 2027
- Any organisation can apply including:
- Voluntary Groups
- Charities
- Community Groups
- Organisations working with third party partnership
This year, projects should be focused on second-hand goods. This might include:
- Advice on buying from online marketplaces and in-person
- Advice on how to purchase and use second-hand goods safely
- Product safety education
- Empowering consumers to protect themselves
- Projects which focus on people who are at higher risk of product-related harm e.g. age, medical conditions, digital exclusion, socio-economic conditions
Projects about food, chemicals, medical products or vehicles will not be funded
Reporting
Funded projects are required to provide information about project delivery and outcomes. This incudes
- A summary of the project objectives
- Details of the project
- Engagement with the project
Previous Examples
Examples of previously funded projects can be found on as part of the guidance. These include
- Community roadshows and safety campaigns
- Product safety workshops
- Accessible safety resources for disabled and deaf consumers
- Social media awareness campaigns
- Consumer education delivered through charities and community groups
