Thank you for your continued support as we work with DWP and Skills England on the campaign to reinstate and update the Level 3 Retail Team Leader apprenticeship.
Yesterday, the British Retail Consortium joined a roundtable discussion with retailers, a training provider, and DWP officials, to explore the re-instatement and revision of Level 3 Retail Team Leader Apprenticeship and what would be needed to support the business case, which is being considered. Daron and Ruth have compiled a meeting note which is attached for your reference.
The discussion was positive and productive. The evidence and data that retailers have shared so far has played a key role in getting us to this stage, thank you to you and your teams for your support.
One additional piece of evidence that DWP has told us would strengthen the case is information on future forecasts, about the potential impact of a reinstated Level 3 Retail Team Leader apprenticeship on opportunities for young people.
In particular, they are interested in understanding the likely number of under-25s who could benefit from this pathway in the coming years. This could include:
- New recruits who may enrol directly onto the Retail Team Leader apprenticeship
- Increased recruitment onto Foundation or Level 2 apprenticeships because there is now a clear progression route available
- Any wider impact on attracting and developing young talent within your organisation
If we can demonstrate the contribution a reinstated Level 3 Retail Team Leader apprenticeship could make towards the Government's ambition of supporting 50,000 more young people into apprenticeships by 2029, it will significantly strengthen our position.
With this in mind, we would be grateful if you could provide your best estimate for the period up to 2029 of:
- The total number of under-25s you expect to recruit into your organisation
- The total number of under-25s you expect to enrol onto apprenticeships
- The total number of under-25s you would expect to enrol onto the Level 3 Retail Team Leader apprenticeship, if it is reinstated.
Please send any estimates to me (ben.george@brc.org.uk) by Wednesday 8th July.
All information provided will be anonymised and will not be attributable to your organisation.
We appreciate it is difficult to provide exact figures, but a reasonable estimate based on previous recruitment trends and future workforce plans would be extremely helpful.
Thank you again for your support and commitment to creating more entry and progression opportunities for young people in retail. Every contribution helps strengthen the case for reinstatement.
