Retail Trust publishes best practice guidelines in collaboration with Alliance Manchester Business School
The Retail Trust, in collaboration with Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), has produced best practice guidance to equip retailers with practical strategies and resources to prevent and manage work-related violence and aggression effectively.
The BRC Crime Report 2026 shows that incidents of violence and abuse averaged over 1,600 per day in 2024-25, marking a slight decline from more than 2,000 per day the previous year, but still well above the pre-pandemic level of 455 incidents per day. This highlights that violence and abuse towards shopworkers remains a serious issue for retailers, with only early signs of improvement and much progress still needed.
Drawing on academic research and industry insights, this guide provides actionable measures to foster safer working environments, support colleagues, and promote a culture of respect across retail settings.
