Building bench strength before you need it | On-Demand Webinar

AI adoption in retail rarely stalls because of the technology. It stalls because organisations haven't built the workforce capability to support it. In this practical webinar, HR and L&D leaders from across retail look at how to move past basic prompt training and design an AI skills strategy that connects every level of the organisation to its AI ambitions.

The session covers why AI transformation depends on people as much as platforms, how to map capability needs from data literacy on the shop floor through to advanced technical roles, and how upskilling channels like apprenticeships can be combined into a single learning strategy with measurable business impact.

What's covered in the webinar

  • Why AI transformation stalls without an organisation-wide workforce strategy
  • How to map an AI skills framework covering technical, cultural and leadership capabilities, beyond prompt engineering alone
  • Capability needs at every level, from shop-floor data literacy to advanced engineering in technical teams
  • How to combine short courses, tailored academies and funded apprenticeship pathways into one scalable learning strategy
  • Where apprenticeships fit within a continuous learning culture, rather than as a standalone fix
  • How to tie L&D investment directly to business value and turn capability plans into actionable roadmaps
  • Building a learning culture that scales as AI reshapes retail roles

  • Vicki Young

    Head of Learning

Vicki is an experienced people professional who brings a rich background in HR leadership to her role as Head of Learning for BRC Learning at the BRC.

Before joining the BRC, Vicki spent nearly a decade at World Duty Free, one of the UK's most prominent travel retailers, where she rose to Regional HR Manager for the South of England. In that role she held responsibility for around 1,000 employees across 14 locations, leading a team of 12 HR professionals and driving the full employee lifecycle. Her work centred on building strong business partnerships, delivering people-focused change, and developing leaders at every level of the organisation — giving her a grounded, commercial perspective on what effective learning really looks like in a retail environment.

She now brings that operational depth to BRC Learning, where since 2021 she has led the learning offer for one of the UK's most influential retail bodies, helping shape the skills and careers of people across the sector.

  • Courtney David

Learning Solutions Engineer | Cambridge Spark

Courtney is a data scientist and Learning Solutions Engineer at Cambridge Spark, recently named Training Provider of the Year. She works with organisations across the UK to design data and AI learning programmes that fit the way their teams actually work, drawing on both her technical background in data science and machine learning and her years of experience in education.

Before Cambridge Spark, Courtney worked at Pearson and in the classroom, which shaped how she approaches upskilling: she knows what makes learning stick. That mix of hands-on data science skill and teaching experience means she can take complex technical concepts and turn them into training that people at any level can pick up and use.
