I attended the NI-GB Supply Chain meeting this morning and have the following updates on labelling guidance timelines:
4 tranches of guidance are due - the BRC are already aware and have asked for involvement in pre-reads of drafts. We will involve members as soon as we hear more on this, and look forward to further engagement with DEFRA in our weekly meetings with retailers.
- 1st tranche due 12th May - technical requirements, compliance and enforcement. Guidance will include phases and timeline for labelling requirements including meat and dairy definitions for October 2023, and products out of scope. Also, definitions on what is a product, box and requirements for shelf and posters.
- 2nd tranche due June/July - financial support
- 3rd tranche due July - consumer guidance
- 4th tranche - date tbc but as early as possible - labelling in Great Britain (GB).
