EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR): Overview of potential impacts on NI

On 16 December, the European Council formally approved the new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR) for the EU. 

Under the Windsor Framework, the extent to which Northern Ireland (NI) will be expected to comply to PPWR is yet to be confirmed. However, it is assumed that retailers exporting packaging products to the EU market will have to likely comply with all relevant provisions and that NI will likely align to mandated expectations and targets.
