The BRC will be meeting with dozens of new MPs in site visits with members across the UK over the next few weeks as part of our #BuyIntoRetail campaign.

We kicked off our meetings yesterday in Kirkburton, near Huddersfield, with newly elected MP Jade Botterill. We've previously worked with Jade at Labour Party Conference last year on a panel on Apprenticeship Levy reform. It was great to catch up with Jade at Kirkburton Post Office, who kindly hosted the visit, to hear about the crucial role they play on the high street, providing so many services crucial in towns and cities across the country.

The visit is part of our Buy Into Retail campaign which aims to showcase the industry’s potential to support the governments ambitions to boost investment and grow the economy, deliver better jobs and reach net zero and a circular economy.

Retail is an integral part of the socio-economic fabric of the UK and has a presence in every town, village and city in the country. In Yorkshire and the Humber, there are 46,180 retail businesses, which together contribute 4.7% total regional GVA and employ 228,000 local residents.  With the right support from the government, retail can be a leader in transforming every region of the country.

We're grateful to all the members who have volunteered their stores already across the country for site visits. If you and your local teams would like to get involved in future visits, please get in touch with tom.mccarthy@brc.org.uk
