Each year, there are over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK, with a survival rate of less than one in ten.
6,000 defibrillators have currently been registered by retailers, including Tesco, Screwfix and the John Lewis Partnership. Lives have already been saved.
Register your defibrillator(s) on The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, to help save lives. There is no cost to register.
What is The Circuit?
The Circuit was developed by BHF in partnership with the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, Resuscitation Council UK, St John Ambulance, and NHS England. It is used by all 14 ambulance services across the UK.
Registration ensures that the ambulance service can direct bystanders to the nearest defibrillator when 999 is called in response to a cardiac arrest, enabling defibrillation to start before the ambulance arrives.
Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by up to 10%.
If a defibrillator is not registered, the ambulance services cannot see it, and the opportunity to save a life could be missed.
Why should you register your defibrillator?
To date, there are almost 100,000 defibrillators registered on The Circuit. It is estimated that there are tens of thousands of defibrillators in locations still unknown to the ambulance services. Registration could make a lifesaving difference. Currently many areas appear to have either poor or no defibrillator coverage because defibrillators in retail premises have not been registered and the ambulance services don’t know they are there.
How can I get involved?
Having a defibrillator and registering it on The Circuit demonstrates your commitment to keeping your employees, your customers and your local community safe.
