Online shopping has grown steadily over the past twenty years, and consumers now enjoy the ability to have goods delivered promptly and efficiently
to their door.
Home delivery rose significantly during the pandemic and 45% of consumers receive at least one parcel delivery per week compared to 36% pre-pandemic. We expect online to account for 30% of retail sales by 2025.
However this comes with an environmental impact and left unchecked this convenience will continue to impact on the environment.
Future charging infrastructure, vehicle technology, data transparency and moving consumers to different choices will all play their part in helping retailers to cut their carbon in the final mile. Our members are looking at innovative solutions including EV, alternative fuels, route optimisation, street-portering and driver training.
Together with our partners Evri, home delivery specialists, we are delighted to present this report Cutting Carbon in the Final Mile.
