In July we were delighted to announce Joules’ collaboration with the BRC to support the development of future retail leaders through the BRC Retail Leadership and Management Apprenticeship.  After launching in July, the programme is well underway and the Level 5 learners have been working their way through Unit 1.  So far they’ve covered The ‘Golden Thread’ and aligning their own and their teams objectives to those of Joules and the industry, Trust and Empowerment, The Grow model of coaching and Giving effective feedback.

We caught up with a few apprentices to find out why they wanted to sign up for the Apprenticeship programme at this time in their careers and what they’re trying to achieve:

“I decided to sign up for the Level 5 apprenticeship for many reasons, one being that I am at a point in my L&D where I felt my learning opportunities were restricted. I was also worried that I was “too old” to do an apprenticeship. However after having an initial discussion with my L&D team I am very excited at what lies ahead. I am like a sponge and can’t wait to learn and build on my existing skills. Also, I love the idea of having a mentor who is highly experienced who I can go to for advice and guidance.”
Crissy Wisdom- Chew, Transport Manager

“I wanted to take part in the L5 leadership & Management apprenticeship to broaden and expand my management and leadership skills and to hopefully progress with my career. Also, to maximize my potential in the current role as well as grasp even better understanding of the business as whole.”
Marcin Klosok, Service Delivery Manager

“I chose to sign up for the Level 5 Apprenticeship as I already completed a Level 3 NVQ and I am always looking for new ways to work and improve myself as a manager and never being happy with the status quo, I am hoping will help my progress within Joules.”
Andy Turner, Warehouse Team Leader

James Cockbill, L&D Manager at Joules Ltd said “Our apprenticeship collaboration with Corndel and the BRC has already started to inspire our leaders to act with courage and develop their skills. Each learner has taken their early eagerness to learn on to a new excited level of putting things into practice. The launch days, online tools and support from both Corndel and BRC have made embedding this offering into the business seamless. We look forward to seeing our leaders flourish even more and could not have got to this point without the support of the BRC.”

We'll continue to follow the Apprentices' journeys throughout the 13 month programme.
