Last year the BRC published the Climate Action Roadmap, which set out five 'Pathways' that the retail industry would take to reach net zero by 2040, across a range of areas

Pathway 2 focuses on efficient buildings powered by renewable energy - this extends to enabling retailers' estates to support customers who want make more sustainable choices, for example by using electric vehicles (EVs).

While Government has made it easier to install EV charge points, there remain issues to resolve in terms of:

  • Legal rights of tenant businesses to install EV hardware and battery storage;
  • The type of charge point to install; and
  • The impact on local grid resilience.

The BRC is developing a toolkit to support retailers to install EV charge points and would like members with experience of the issue to join a small task and finish working group to help draw it up. The commitment will be limited to a small number of virtual meetings and inputting to, and reviewing drafts of the final toolkit.

The work will start in March and will aim to complete by the end of April.
