Retailer/Landlord Net Zero Buildings Protocol

A key element of our Climate Action Roadmap, designed to help get the UK retail industry and its supply chains to Net Zero by 2040, is decarbonising retail estates.

The Retailer/Landlord Net Zero Buildings Protocol, developed in partnership with our Pathway 2 Partner, The Crown Estate, and in conjunction with BRC retail members and landlords, sets out a suite of principles to help retailers and landlords work together to bring building emissions to Net Zero.

The intention is that retailers (as both tenants and landlords) and landlords can sign up to these principles on energy efficiency and use of renewables, at the point of signing a new lease. It’s an important step in supporting greater collaboration and joint positive action from retailers and landlords in achieving Net Zero targets.

The Protocol also has the support of the British Property Federation and Better Buildings Partnership.
